Gifts for gardeners

December 16, 2015

I'm sometimes asked 'What is an ideal gift for a gardener?' Here are my Top 3 choices, in my favourite wooden trug, bought from the garden at Highgrove House.

1. Secateurs. I am always mislaying mine, only to come across them buried in a border months later. Felco ones are wonderful.

2. Gloves that you can wear all day. My favourites are 'Showa Floreo 370'. I can actually feel what I'm doing while wearing them, and although not suitable for working with thorny plants, they are fine for most jobs. Extravagantly I like a new pair for every new planting job, although these are washable.

3. Plastic coated plant supports. My favourites are the half hoop shapes, or individual supports.

And if I had to add a 4th choice, it would be a wooden Sussex trug!
